Straightway

John 13:15 For I have given you an ^aexample, that ye should do as I have done to you.

15:16  Ye have not chosen me, but I have ^achosen you, and ^bordained you, that ye should go and bring forth ^cfruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my ^dname, he may give it you.

Mark  1:18 And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.

Straightway is a power word. Straightway is an action word. It means immediately, without delay or hesitation.  It means at once.  Also, it is associated with having no curve or turn-a straight course, track, or path. Procrastination would be the very opposite of straightway. To procrastinate is to put off intentionally and habitually something that should be done. Procrastination is unproductive delay.  Someone has wisely said, "Procrastination is a silly thing; it only brings me sorrow, But I can change at any time; I think I will-tomorrow!"

"Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.  And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.  And  they straightway left their nets, and follow him." …

How wise and blessed we would be if we eliminated procrastination and made a decision to serve the Lord and accept His invitation to "Come follow me." (Luke 18:22)… Avoid procrastination. We can say with great accuracy procrastination is an unwholesome blend of doubt and delay.  Oft-used words of the Savior such as ask, seek, knock, go, thrust, are action words.  He would have us use action as we teach and live His principles.

Write a letter to your self with some of your feelings about Christ (ideas: Your testimony, Conference talk you want to remember, experiences, what you want your children to know about Him.) Seal the letter and put it away. Schedule time to read the letter on Friday October 3, 08 (Make sure to mark in your calendar where you hide the letter :) Hey no pressure make it as short or long as you please!

Mateo 4:20 Ellos entonces, dejando al instante las redes, le siguieron.

Al instante es una frase de poder. Al instante es una frase de acción. Significa inmediatamente, sin tardanza ni duda.  Significa ahora mismo. Tambien esta asociada a no tomar curvas o dar vueltas-un curso directo, una pista, un camino derecho.  Procrastinación sería todo lo contrario a al instante.  Procrastinar es el ignorar intencionalmente y habitualmente algo que debería hacerce.  Procrastinación es un retardo improductivo.  Alguien alguna vez dijo sabiamente, "Procrastinación es algo curioso; solamente trae dolor, Mas puedo cambiarlo a cualquier hora; Mañana lo haré sin demora!"

"Andando Jesús junto al mar de Galilea, vio a dos hermanos, Simón, llamado Pedro, y Andrés su hermano, que echaban la red en el mar; porque eran pescadores. Y les dijo: Venid en pos de mí, y os haré pescadores de hombres. Ellos entonces, dejando al instante las redes, le siguieron."

Como seríamos sabios y bendecidos si eliminaramos la procrastinación y tomaramos una decisión de servir al Señor y aceptar Su invitación de "Ven sigueme." (Lucas 18:22)… Evita la procrastinación.  Podemos decir con gran certeza que la procrastinación es una repugnante mezcla de duda y demora.  Palabras comunes del Salvador tal como llamar, buscar, tocar, ir, meter/cosechar, son palabras de acción. Él procuraria que usaramos acción al enseñar y vivir Sus principios.

Introduction: Luke 16:13-18 "No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.  And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.  The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.  And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.  Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery."  It would appear that the parable of the rich man and Lazarus was directed at the Pharisees.  This is the only parable where one of the people, Lazarus, is identified by name.  Is it mere coincidence the use of Lazarus in the parable in that the Pharisees wanted to kill Jesus even though they had seen Lazarus be raised from the dead?  

Luke 16:19-31 "There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.  And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.  And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.  But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.  And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.  Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.  Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.  And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.  And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead."

Think of the largest miracle that you have seen, how did it impact you?

Introduccion: Lucas 16:13-18

Ningún siervo puede servir a dos señores; porque o aborrecerá al uno y amará al otro, o estimará al uno y menospreciará al otro. No podéis servir a Dios y a las riquezas. Y oían también todas estas cosas los fariseos, que eran avaros, y se burlaban de él. 
Entonces les dijo: Vosotros sois los que os justificáis a vosotros mismos delante de los hombres; mas Dios conoce vuestros corazones; porque lo que los hombres tienen por sublime, delante de Dios es abominación.
La ley y los profetas eran hasta Juan; desde entonces el reino de Dios es anunciado, y todos se esfuerzan por entrar en él. Pero más fácil es que pasen el cielo y la tierra, que se frustre una tilde de la ley. Todo el que repudia a su mujer, y se casa con otra, adultera; y el que se casa con la repudiada del marido, adultera.

Lucas 16:19-31

Había un hombre rico, que se vestía de púrpura y de lino fino, y hacía cada día banquete con esplendidez.  Había también un mendigo llamado Lázaro, que estaba echado a la puerta de aquél, lleno de llagas, y ansiaba saciarse de las migajas que caían de la mesa del rico; y aun los perros venían y le lamían las llagas.  Aconteció que murió el mendigo, y fue llevado por los ángeles al seno de Abraham; y murió también el rico, y fue sepultado. 

Y en el Hades alzó sus ojos, estando en tormentos, y vio de lejos a Abraham, y a Lázaro en su seno.  Entonces él, dando voces, dijo: Padre Abraham, ten misericordia de mí, y envía a Lázaro para que moje la punta de su dedo en agua, y refresque mi lengua; porque estoy atormentado en esta llama. 

Pero Abraham le dijo: Hijo, acuérdate que recibiste tus bienes en tu vida, y Lázaro también males; pero ahora éste es consolado aquí, y tú atormentado. Además de todo esto, una gran sima está puesta entre nosotros y vosotros, de manera que los que quisieren pasar de aquí a vosotros, no pueden, ni de allá pasar acá. Entonces le dijo: Te ruego, pues, padre, que le envíes a la casa de mi padre, porque tengo cinco hermanos, para que les testifique, a fin de que no vengan ellos también a este lugar de tormento. Y Abraham le dijo: A Moisés y a los profetas tienen; óiganlos. El entonces dijo: No, padre Abraham; pero si alguno fuere a ellos de entre los muertos, se arrepentirán.  Mas Abraham le dijo: Si no oyen a Moisés y a los profetas, tampoco se persuadirán aunque alguno se levantare de los muertos.

Introduction: Luke 14:11-14 "For whosoever ^aexalteth himself shall be ^babased; and he that ^chumbleth himself shall be exalted. Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.  But when thou makest a feast, call the ^apoor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: And thou shalt be ^ablessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be ^brecompensed at the ^cresurrection of the just."

Luke 14:15-24 "And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.  Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.   And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.   And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.   And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.   So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.   And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.  And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.  For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper."

Find 3 times in the scriptures where the Lord invites us to do something.  Evaluate how you are doing in accepting those invitations. 

Activity: Think of a time when you have convinced someone to do something when they initially did not want to.

Lucas 14:15-24  Y oyendo esto uno de los que juntamente estaban sentados á la mesa, le dijo: Bienaventurado el que comerá pan en el reino de los cielos.

El entonces le dijo: Un hombre hizo una grande cena, y convido á muchos. Y á la hora de la cena envió á su siervo á decir á los convidados: Venid, que ya está todo aparejado. Y comenzaron todos á una á excusarse. El primero le dijo: He comprado una hacienda, y necesito salir y verla; te ruego que me des por excusado. Y el otro dijo: He comprado cinco yuntas de bueyes, y voy á probarlos; ruégote que me des por excusado. Y el otro dijo: Acabo de casarme, y por tanto no puedo ir. Y vuelto el siervo, hizo saber estas cosas á su señor. Entonces enojado el padre de la familia, dijo á su siervo: Ve presto por las plazas y por las calles de la ciudad, y mete acá los pobres, los mancos, y cojos, y ciegos. Y dijo el siervo: Señor, hecho es como mandaste, y aun hay lugar. Y dijo el señor al siervo: Ve por los caminos y por los vallados, y fuérzalos á entrar, para que se llene mi casa. Porque os digo que ninguno de aquellos hombres que fueron llamados, gustará mi cena.

Piensa o encuentra 3 lugares en las escrituras en las que Cristo te invite a hacer algo. Evalua si has aceptado esas invitaciones.  

Actividad:  Piensa en alguna vez en que hayas convencido a alguien a hacer algo que al principio no querían hacer.

Introduction: Luke 14:1-6 "And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.  And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.  And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?  And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go; And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the day?  And they could not answer him again to these things."

Luke 14:7-11 "And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them,  When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him; And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room. But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.  For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted."

How do you maintain humility?  

Activity: Think of a time when you have planned a party and some or all people did not come after promising that they would, how did you feel?  Think of a party you've enjoyed. Why was it enjoyable?

Introducción: Y ACONTECIÓ que entrando en casa de un príncipe de los Fariseos un sábado á comer pan, ellos le acechaban. Y he aquí un hombre hidrópico estaba delante de Él. Y respondiendo Jesús, habló á los doctores de la ley y á los Fariseos, diciendo: ¿Es lícito sanar en sábado? Y ellos callaron. Entonces Él tomándole, le sanó, y despidióle. Y respondiendo á ellos dijo: ¿El asno ó el buey de cuál de vosotros caerá en algún pozo, y no lo sacará luego en día de sábado? Y no le podían replicar á estas cosas.

Lucas 14:7-11 Y observando cómo escogían los primeros asientos á la mesa, propuso una parábola á los convidados, diciéndoles: Cuando fueres convidado de alguno á bodas, no te sientes en el primer lugar, no sea que otro más honrado que tú esté por Él convidado, y  viniendo el que te llamó á ti y á Él, te diga: Da lugar á éste: y entonces comiences con vergüenza á tener el lugar último. Mas cuando fueres convidado, ve, y siéntate en el postrer lugar; porque cuando viniere el que te llamó, te diga: Amigo, sube arriba: entonces tendrás gloria delante de los que juntamente se asientan á la mesa. Porque cualquiera que se ensalza, será humillado; y el que se humilla, será ensalzado.

Luke 13:6-9 "He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.  Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?   And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down."

If you had a fruit tree that never produced fruit what would you do to that tree?

Lucas 13:6-9 Y dijo esta parábola: Tenía uno una higuera plantada en su viña, y vino á buscar fruto en ella, y no lo halló. Y dijo al viñero: He aquí tres años ha que vengo á buscar fruto en esta higuera, y no lo hallo; córtala, ¿por qué ocupará aún la tierra?

El entonces respondiendo, le dijo: Señor, déjala aún este año, hasta que la excave, y estercole. Y si hiciere fruto, bien; y si no, la cortarás después.

Si tu tuvieras un arbol que se supone que es frutal y que esperas que te de fruto pero que nunca te da ni un fruto, ¿qué harías con él?

How Fertile is Our Ground?

  

 

Introduction: Matthew 13:1-2 "The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the ^asea side.   2 And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore."

 

Matthew 13:3-9 "And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;  And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:  Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:  And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.  And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:  But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.  Who hath ears to hear, let him hear."

 

How fertile is in our ground?  Do we give Gospel truths room to grow in our lives and hearts?  How fruitful has the Gospel "seed" been in our life?

Introducción: Mateo 13: 1-2  Y AQUEL día, saliendo Jesús de casa, se sentó junto á la mar.  se allegaron á Él muchas gentes; y entrándose Él en el barco, se sentó, y toda la gente estaba a la ribera.

 

 

Mateo 13:3-9

 

Y les habló muchas cosas por parábolas, diciendo: He aquí el que sembraba salió á sembrar. Y sembrando, parte de la simiente cayó junto al camino; y vinieron las aves, y la comieron. Y parte cayó en pedregales, donde no tenía mucha tierra; y nació luego, porque no tenía profundidad de tierra: Mas en saliendo el sol, se quemó; y secóse, porque no tenía raíz. Y parte cayó en espinas; y las espinas crecieron, y la ahogaron. Y parte cayó en buena tierra, y dió fruto, cuál a ciento, cuál á sesenta, y cuál á treinta. Quien tiene oídos para oir, oiga.

 

¿Qué tan fértil es nuestra tierra? ¿le damos espacio a los principios del evangelio para que crezcan en nuestra vida? ¿Qué tan fértil ha sido la semilla del evangelio en nuestra vida?

 

Service in the Kingdom of God

 Introduction: Matthew 19:27-30 "Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?  And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the ^aregeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, ^bjudging the twelve tribes of Israel.  And every one that hath ^aforsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my ^bname's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit ^ceverlasting life.  But many that are ^afirst shall be last; and the last shall be first."

 Matthew 20:1-16 "For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire ^alabourers into his vineyard.  And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his ^avineyard.  And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing ^aidle in the marketplace, And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.  Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.  And about the ^aeleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?  They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive. 

 So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the ^alabourers, and give them their ^bhire, beginning from the last unto the first.  And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.  But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny.  And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house, Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.  But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?  Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.  Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?  So the ^alast shall be first, and the first last: for many be ^bcalled, but few chosen."

 How do we view our service in the kingdom?  Reflect upon how long you have been a member of the Church, how has your service in the kingdom impacted your life?  Have you ever felt underpaid?  Were you justified in feeling underpaid?  How are the promised blessings in the kingdom of heaven different than wages we receive here on Earth? 

 

Activity:  Look for the most fertile ground today.  What are the characteristics of fertile ground?  How does that apply to us?

Díceles: Id también vosotros á la viña, y recibiréis lo que fuere justo.Y cuando fué la tarde del día, el señor de la viña dijo á su mayordomo: Llama á los obreros y págales el jornal, comenzando desde los postreros hasta los primeros.

Y viniendo los que habían ido cerca de la hora undécima, recibieron cada uno un denario. Y viniendo también los primeros, pensaron que habían de recibir más; pero también ellos recibieron cada uno un denario.Y tomándolo, murmuraban contra el padre de la familia,diciendo: Estos postreros sólo han trabajado una hora, y los has hecho iguales á nosotros, que hemos llevado la carga y el calor del día. Y Él respondiendo, dijo á uno de ellos: Amigo, no te hago agravio; ¿no te concertaste conmigo por un denario?Toma lo que es tuyo, y vete; mas quiero dar á este postrero, como á ti. ¿No me es lícito á mi hacer lo que quiero con lo mío? ó ¿es malo tu ojo, porque yo soy bueno?Así los primeros serán postreros, y los postreros primeros: porque muchos son llamados, mas pocos escogidos.

¿Cómo ves tu servicio en el reino? Reflexiona en cuanto tiempo tienes como miembro de la iglesia. ¿como se ha visto afectada tu vida por tu servicio en el reino? ¿te has sentido mal pagado alguna vez?  ¿tenias justificacción para sentirte asi? ¿en que forma son diferentes las bendiciones del reino del cielo a los salarios que se nos dan en la tierra?

Actividad: Busca la tierra mas fértil que puedas ver y nota donde esta. ¿Cuáles son las características de la tierra fértil? ¿cómo se aplica esto a nosotros?

Crecimiento Potencial del Reino de Dios

Introducción:
Mateo 13:10-13 "Entonces, llegándose los discípulos, le dijeron: ¿Por qué les hablas por parábolas? Y Él respondiendo, les dijo: Por que á vosotros es concedido saber los misterios del reino de los cielos; mas á ellos no es concedido. Porque á cualquiera que tiene, se le dará, y tendrá más; pero al que no tiene, aun lo que tiene le será quitado.Por eso les hablo por parábolas; porque viendo no ven, y oyendo no oyen, ni entienden." Cristo acababa de enseñarle a la multitud con la parabola del sembrador y justo después tuvo la conversación de antes con sus discípulos. Despuse Jesús le compartió 4 parabolas a sus discípulos, la parabola del sembrador, y 3 otras parabolas donde Cristo hace comparaciones al reino de los cielos. La parabola del grano de mostaza es la segunda de estas parabolas sobre el "reino de los cielos"

Otra parábola les propuso, diciendo: El reino de los cielos es semejante al grano de mostaza, que tomándolo alguno lo sembró en su campo: El cual á la verdad es la más pequeña de todas las simientes; mas cuando ha crecido, es la mayor de las hortalizas, y se hace árbol, que vienen las aves del cielo y hacen nidos en sus ramas.

Considera, ¿Que estoy haciendo para que cresca el Reino de Dios? (enseñar hijos de Dios, llamamientos, servicio, compartir evangelio, dar buenos consejos, ser ejemplo?)

Actividad: ¿cual sería un buen salario para ti? Si pudieras escoger que se te pagara con cosas que no fueran dinero, ¿Qué cosas escogerías para que se te pague por tu trabajo?

Growth Potencial of the Kingdom of God

Introduction: Matthew 13:10-13 "And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand." Christ had just taught a multitude the parable of the sower whereafter He and His disciples have the conversation cited above. Christ then shares 4 parables with His disciples: the parable of the sower and then 3 parables where Christ makes comparisons to the kingdom of heaven. The parable of the grain of mustard see is the second of these "kingdom of heaven" parables.

Matthew 13:31-32 "Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a ^agrain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the ^abirds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof."
